According to the National Institute of Mental health, every year, close to 20 million people in the United States suffer from clinical depression, making it one of the most common forms of mental illnesses.
Depression does not discriminate. It can happen to any of us, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnic group, health condition or statue. Many people believe that depression is just a normal part of one’s life. Believe me, it is not!
Clinical depression can make people miserable and life almost unbearable, leaving you with little or no desire to do even the most mundane things in life. It is as if you were just going thru the motions of life, with no purpose whatsoever and unable to see the proverbial “light at the end of the tunnel”. In some cases, it leads to suicide.
Treatment for this mental illness is usually effective; however, less than 50% of people suffering from depression seek treatment. This illness has carried a stigma for ages; therefore, many people disregard treatment, rather than face the possibility of being labeled weak or crazy.
